As you enter the yoga studio, many instructors encourage their fellow yogis to set an intention. As a Real Hot Yoga member for 5+ years, I have finally settled on an intention: strong body, strong mind.
Hot yoga has many benefits, some physical and some mental. It’s the combination of strengthening the two at the same time that is the true balance – and where Real Hot Yoga hits the mark!
Increase in flexibility: In hot yoga classes, the heat allows your joints and muscles to be at the optimum temperature. This allows you to press further into your poses than in any other environmental condition. This deep stretching also brings more blood and oxygen to the body.
Hot yoga also significantly reduces your chances of injuries! Where many sports have high weight and intensity, yoga works to ensure your muscles maintain flexibility and stamina. Your body won’t be the only thing becoming flexible - your mind will gain flexibility too as you learn to focus on your breath, slow your mind, and focus your energy!
Reducing stress and being your best self: Being in physical shape is only half of the “be your best self” recipe for success. In addition to being physically capable, you must also take the time to ensure your mental health is also at its best. Time on your mat is just that – time for yourself. Time to breathe, to move past, to forgive, and to let go.
Cathartic practice: Practicing yoga in a heated studio allows yogis to feel more loose and comfortable. This helps you relax on a deeper level, allowing your mind to venture to places that are normally out of reach. This allows you to not only venture to eliminate mental and emotional stress you’re unintentionally carrying, but also allows you insight into your own self and needs.
